Assesses, diagnoses, plans and implements the medical care of patients in collaboration with a physician. Functions within the full scope of licensure; accountable for the assessment, coordination delivery and evaluation of care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. Provides medical consultation including the performance of therapeutic procedures delegated by the supervising physician, assist with various procedures, provides patient education, treatment and follow-up, may complete daily rounds and as needed using an organized multi-disciplinary team approach to provide continuity of care throughout the care continuum. The Physician Assistant's responsibilities may include managing patients in an office, hospital, emergency and/or perioperative setting. Follows ambulatory care and inpatient standardized procedures, protocols, policy and procedures regulated by the State of California Physician Assistant Practice Act.
PATIENT CARE
Performs patient assessments, including obtaining medical history, reviewing records, conducting physical exams, documenting findings, and reporting abnormalities to the attending physician.
Provides healthcare services under the direction and responsibility of a physician.
Conducts comprehensive patient evaluations, including physical examinations and compilation of medical data.
Orders, administers, and interprets diagnostic tests, identifying deviations from normal findings.
Develops and implements patient management plans; documents progress and ensures continuity of care.
Educates and counsels patients on treatment compliance, health maintenance, family planning, and emotional well-being.
Performs therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, and infection management.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates effectively (written and verbal) with patients, physicians, and staff.
Provides patient education and counseling.
Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters.
Supports quality assessment initiatives and reporting.
Coordinates communication between providers to ensure continuity of care.
Facilitates patient access to community and support resources for medical and psychosocial needs.
PERFORMANCE AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
Identifies, reports, and participates in performance improvement initiatives.
Recommends and implements process improvements aligned with organizational goals.
Assists in development and maintenance of clinical pathways, order sets, and preference cards.
Collects, tracks, and analyzes performance improvement data.
Participates in clinical effectiveness projects and studies.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
PA - Physician Assistant license
or
NP-California Nurse Practitioner by California Department of Consumer Affairs
NP-F - Nurse Practitioner Furnishing
RN-California Registered Nurse
NCCPA Certification (required at hire or within 12 months if applicable; required for billing)
CSRC-Controlled Substance Registered Certification (DEA) (not required for SHSO-Admin (Employee Health) or non-patient care positions)
BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
Certification required based on the department requirements
